Melody
W. Mulaik, MSHS, CPC, CPC-H, RCC, is the President
and Co-Founder of Coding Strategies, Inc. located in Atlanta,
GA. She is a frequent speaker and author for nationally recognized
professional organizations and publications. Melody's areas
of expertise include billing and collections, coding and compliance,
revenue enhancement, front-end hospital operations, management
engineering, medical school relations and operations improvement.
Melody often speaks at national conferences on many topics including
Interventional and Diagnostic Radiology coding, Internal Audit
Program Development, Radiology Coding Compliance and other healthcare
compliance issues. Recent speaking engagements include the national
conferences of the American Healthcare Radiology Administrators
(AHRA), the American Academy of Professional Coders and the
Radiological Society of North America (RSNA). Since 2003, CSI
has sponsored the AHRA Annual Coding Seminar Series and Melody
has spoken at the majority of these sessions as well as the
Imaging Center Administrator’s Conference and many coding
audio conferences.
Melody is a frequent author for radiology publications and writes
the bi-monthly coding column for AHRA’s Radiology Management
and serves as the Technical Advisory for the Interventional
Pink Sheet. Additionally, she was the Lead Author of the Coding
and Billing Chapter in the AHRA text, Financial Management in
Radiology. Her work has also appeared recently in RT Image,
Imaging Economics, Advance for Imaging and Oncology Administrators
and Auntminnie.com. Melody co-authored CSI's Coding Guides for
Comprehensive Diagnostic Radiology and Coding Guide for Interventional
Radiology and authored the Advanced Coding Guide for Interventional
Radiology.
Prior to founding CSI, Melody held the position of Vice-President
of Billing Compliance for a large national billing company,
where she was responsible for the implementation and maintenance
of the billing compliance program. In a direct operational capacity,
Melody provided her expertise at three Atlanta area hospitals
in operations, finance and management engineering disciplines.
Melody holds a Master of Science in Health Systems (MSHS) degree
and a Bachelor of Industrial Engineering (BIE) degree, both
from the number one nationally ranked Industrial & Systems
Engineering School at the Georgia Institute of Technology (Georgia
Tech), in Atlanta, Georgia. She also holds the professional
certification of Certified Professional Coder (CPC), Certified
Professional Coder - Hospital (CPC-H) and Radiology Certified
Coder (RCC) and is an active member of AHRA, RBMA, HBMA and
HCCA.
